ABOUT THE SCHOOL COUNSELOR OF THE YEAR PROGRAM
The Nebraska School Counselor Association (NSCA) began its School Counselor of the Year Program in 2008 by awarding a single School Counselor of the Year. In 2010 the program was expanded to recognizing an Elementary, Middle and High School Counselor of the Year in an effort to celebrate more of the great school counselors in Nebrasaka. Beginning in 2013 the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) expanded its School Counselor of the Year program and started requesting each state forward one and only one state winnter to be considered for ASCA School Counselor of the Year. As a result NSCA moved to its current practice of naming the Elementary, Middle and High School Counselor of the year at the Annual School Counselor Academy in the fall and the announcing one of those three as the overall Nebraska School Counselor of the Year in February in conjuction with National School Counseling Week.
