Counselor Listserv

What is a listserv and why should I use it?

A listserv is a tool you can use to gather or disseminate information. You subscribe to the listserv through your e-mail and receive information through e-mail.

For example, I might be wondering how other school counselors set-up transcripts. After subscribing to the listserv, I would then send an e-mail to hscounsl@listserv.wsc.edu and write "How does everyone set-up their transcripts?" When I send this message, every counselor who has subscribed to the listserv will receive my question. At this point anyone on the listserv can respond and you will probably receive a variety of answers through your e-mail.

Below please find the directions you need to follow in order to subscribe to the counselors listserv.

1.  Sign on to your e-mail account (use the software you currently use to send e-mail to an Internet address)

2.  Create a new e-mail message with no subject line and the following text in the body of the e-mail: subscribe hscounsl

3.  Send the e-mail to "majordomo@listserv.wsc.edu"

4.  Generally, within one hour, you will receive confirmation and a welcoming message to confirm your completed subscription to the listserv

5.  Corresponding and consulting with your colleagues is accomplished by sending your e-mail posting to the listserve at: hscounsl@listserv.wsc.edu
